Hello Everyone, In Honor of Teacher Appreciation week the Nowata HS Choir and myself have a special treat for you. Below is the link to a youtube video of one of our song selections from the Spring Concert. The song is called Good Job and it is dedicated to all the teachers, administrators, staff, families, first responders, police, doctors, nurses and firefighters. This past year and half has had many challenges and we have all had to wear many different hats, more than we usually do, but in the end we have done it. We have provided our students with a good education and we have done the best we can to give them as normal a school year filled with as many normal activities as we could. So thank you for all your hard work, your love, dedication and commitment to being the best teacher you can be. This song is for you! Jennifer Prince https://youtu.be/4AqHZqKUOwc

Freshmen Jazmyn Ortiz-Velez, Juniors Hannah Morris, Christopher Bray and Josie Kipps and Seniors Mattie Wright and Leslie Randall received an Excellent Rating on their vocal ensemble. Congratualtions to our Band students who did well at State. Below is an update from Ms. Prince. Hello Everyone, I would like to take a moment to congratulate several band members who attended OSSAA State Instrumental Solo Ensemble yesterday in Enid and had great success. Senior Mattie Wright received a Superior Rating (a rating of one) on her Clarinet Solo. Freshmen Michael Prince received a Superior Rating (a rating of one) on his Marimba Solo. Freshmen Jazmyn Ortiz-Velez received a Excellence Rating (a rating of two) on her Flute Solo. Senior Mattie Wright, Senior Haylee Mullikin and Junior Hannha Morris received a Excellence Rating (a rating of two) on the percussion ensemble. I am super proud of these kids and their accomplishments this year. In this year of craziness this in my opinion is even a bigger accomplishment then normal.
The most recent COVID-19 map places Nowata County back in the yellow designation. So masks will be optional until further notice.
An annoucenment from Mr. Prince regarding robotics: Hello Ironmen family, I wanted to give you all an update on how the Robotics Teams did this past weekend at their state tournaments. There are 6 teams total at Nowata, 4 in the middle school and 2 in the high school. This year I'm super proud of all 6 teams as each of them qualified for the state tournament! This is a huge accomplishment, and the first time it's ever happened in Nowata. Unfortunately, one of the high school teams had to cut their season short due to COVID-19, so only 5 teams ended up actually going to the state tournaments. In the middle school we have: Team 44044B - The Terra-Ma-Dactyls - Consisting of Savannah Hultz and Kennedy Newsom - made it to the quarterfinals before being eliminated! - Great Job Ladies! Team 44044C - The Ciller Cobras - Consisting of Shelby Webster and Haelee Hesslen - were also quarterfinalists, BUT they also qualified for the VEX World Championship based on their skills score! (This is my first time going to Worlds!) - Amazing Work Girls! Team 44044D - Wall-E - A solo team because the rest of his teammates didn't show up, Wally Rush - He made it into the quarterfinals as well - Awesome Job Wally! Team 44044G - The Banana Sloths - Consisting of Maria Gomez, Kollin Ivie, Davionn Downing, and Ryker Garner - battled hard throughout the day, but were eliminated in the qualifying rounds. - Nice Work Guys! For the high school we had Team 44044X - The Quiet One - Normally a solo team of just Michael Prince, but today was helped out by Chelo Prince and Amelia Prince - they got robbed in their quarter finals match with a heartbreaking score of 19-18, but the refs counted a ball as scored that shouldn't have counted. Which means they should have tied and replayed the match. (But I'm not upset or anything 😀). They didn't walk away empty handed though, they won The Judges Award. Great Job Prince Kids, I'm so PROUD of you! The Judges Award is presented to a team that is most deserving of special recognition. 1. The Team displays special attributes, exemplary effort and perseverance at the event, 2. Team overcomes an obstacle or challenge and achieves a goal or special accomplishment at the event or at some time throughout the season or 3. Team distinguishes itself in some way that does not fit under other award criteria but nonetheless deserves special recognition. Needless to say I'm so very proud of this year's robotics teams. They've had many struggles to face with COVID and being quarantined, but we've faced them head on and prevailed having an exceptional season full of fun and excitement. Hopefully next year is a little more normal than this year was. Thank you everyone for your support, Jason Prince

From Mrs. Prince: Yesterday the Nowata High School Band participated at the OSSAA District Band Festival in Beggs. The Band received a Good or 3 in stage performance and an Excellent or 2 in Sight Reading. This year just like many activities we have faced many challenges and obstacles as we prepared for the contest. Normally we have 8 weeks to prepare but with COVID and the weather it took us down to only 4 weeks. These kids never gave up and hurdled over every obstacle that was presented on our journey with contest this year. I am very proud of the kids and the performance they gave. So if you see one of them today please make sure to give them a pat on the back and congratulate them on a job well done. The HS Choir and MS Choir participated in a Festival Clinic with OKWU on Monday. Due to COVID all of the Choir Festivals were cancelled this year. Professor Stewart from OKWU was kind enough to bring his choir to Nowata on Monday to not only work with my choirs in a clinic setting but also adjudicate their performance as if they were at a festival. The High School Choir received a 2/3 split and the MS Choir received a 2. Once again these kiddos overcame many challenges to be able to do this. So if you see one of them today please make sure to give them a pat on the back and congratulate them on a job well done. Also thank you all for being so supportive and understanding this week with the bands and choirs. Members of both HS and MS Band have one more competition this week at OSSAA Solo Ensemble in Claremore. I will let you know on Monday how they did. This is a state qualifying tournament for several of them. =)

At 7:15 a.m., we knew we would be unable to have school. Our school employees started notifying parents, and we shut down very quickly. Fortunately, electricians were available and able to fix the problem today. I have been employed by NPS for over thirty years, in the principal position only a year and a half. I knew this position would be an adventure, but I never dreamed it would be as adventurous as it has been! We never seem to know what tomorrow will bring. However, one thing I do know, I would never want to be anywhere else. The support and kindness of this community and the staff are beyond imagination. I know what a hardship it is when we cancel school. I am so very sorry. Thank you for your understanding. We will see you tomorrow. Sherry Campbell

Chelsea has updated their protocol for the JV and Varsity games tomorrow night. They will allow 1 person entry for each player. You will show your ID at the gate. Masks and social distancing are required. You are asked not to stay after your athlete is done for the evening. Girls basketball players tell Coach Vann by noon tomorrow who you are giving your 1 ticket to, boys tell Coach Hollingshed. We will send them our ticket list, so if you are on the list showing your ID at the gate will verify you. Please be prepared to pay for the ticket at the gate.
Chelsea Public Schools has a no fans policy as part of their COVID policy. We are working on a way to broadcast the varsity games live tomorrow night. I will post link information tomorrow.
COVID ATTENDANCE POLICY FOR BASKETBALL. Our policy is pending new guidelines coming down from federal, state or local authorities. Masks are required. If you purchased a season ticket, you will not be charged again at the door. We do have a few season tickets left, please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to purchase them. If you have player passes, you will be asked to pay for that ticket at the gate on a game by game basis. We have 50 tickets available for purchase at the gate on a first come first serve basis. For Nowata fans who have season tickets or player tickets, your seats are assigned. Please ask Mr. Williams, Coach Hollingshed or Coach Johnston if you are not sure where your assigned seat is. If you purchase one of the 50 tickets at the door, the top two rows on the home side are open for you. Pleas social distance yourselves. The visiting team has been given 120 player coupons. Their administration will hand them out as they see fit. They will pay admission at the gate if they have an entry coupon. Visitors will sit on their side. We will require them to wear masks, and encourage them so social distance. Thank you for being cooperative with us. Our primary concern is for player and fan safety. Hopefully we can continue to play basketball this season.
Seniors participating in Senior Day tomorrow please be in the New Gym at 12:10. Please make sure that you and those walking with you have a mask to wear before you walk onto the floor. In our line up, we will likely not be able to have the necessary social distancing so masks will be required. Once on the floor, wearing the mask is a decision that you and your family will make. I believe we can social distance well enough during the ceremony so masks will be optional for those involved. We will begin the ceremony at 12:30.

Elementary Parents, I know rumors are circulating that the school will not be in session from Thanksgiving to Christmas Break. I have “heard” them also, but not in any official way. We will be back to school on November 20th, 2020 we will then be out for the planned Thanksgiving Break. I want to assure you we are planning on coming back on November 30th, 2020 from Thanksgiving Break. We feel the best place for our elementary students is in a classroom with teachers for in-person learning. We also realize the struggle for working parents when pivoting to virtual. When we have been short-staffed, the High School sends over employees to help out. The district is doing its best to keep our elementary students at school, with safety being the utmost concern. In saying this, we all know things can change. We sent home iPads and paper packets. We are preparing for the worst, but planning for the best as you should also! The iPads can stay home until we return to school on November 30th, 2020. The iPads do not need to come back Friday the 20th, the less the iPads travel, the less the damage to them. Thank you, Sherry Campbell
Cherokee Families, please read the following message. Good afternoon, Cherokee Nation Principal Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. and Deputy Principal Chief Bryan Warner announced the launch of a new connectivity survey along with a Respond, Recover, Rebuild Mobile Hotspot Connectivity Assistance program to provide mobile hotspots to Cherokee students lacking Internet at home. Parents, or legal guardians, should start by completing the survey. The survey responses will provide Cherokee Nation data to make more informed decisions on improving broadband access for its citizens. If determined a Cherokee household may qualify for a free mobile hotspot, including a year of service, respondents will be prompted to complete an application as part of the survey. Due to limited supply, not every qualifying household will receive a device. Priority will be given to Cherokee households with K-12 students. A cellular solution may not work for every household, but know the Cherokee Nation is hard at work expanding Internet connectivity options for its citizens. The global pandemic has highlighted, now more than ever, that having reliable broadband access is essential for a thriving community, family, workforce and Nation. Here is a link to the survey.

In case Nowata Elementary would close traditional learning for more than a couple of days, we would go virtual along with the High School and Middle School. The elementary is one Ipad per student ratio. All the programs you will need are on the Ipads. The MS and HS send the devices home every night to be brought back every morning. We use the devices in the classroom daily. Due to the age of our students, we do not feel this is an option. If we were to go virtual, we would create several check-out times for our devices. There is a $25.00 insurance charge per device. We have the insurance for your benefit if the device were broken or damaged, it can be fixed or replaced. You may use a device you have at home, we would give you directions for the applications you would need to download. At this time it is very important that you sign up on your student’s ClassDojo. All of our teachers use ClassDojo. The teacher has invited you, we are still missing many responses back. If we were to need to send short term distance learning assignments, this would be the method we would use. ClassDojo is also a communication tool with the classroom teacher.
Due to the recent rise in COVID cases, non participants will be required to wear face coverings at the football game Friday evening.
Students, the expectation is that you complete what your teachers have posted today. Please make sure you log in. If you have limited WiFi access, the schools WiFi works in the parking lot. Feel free to stop by for a few minutes and get stuff downloaded.
Nowata Elementary School is canceled tomorrow due to a water leak. We apologize for the inconvenience. Our students are not virtual yet. Please read with your child for thirty minutes. I think it would be great fun for you to go on a field trip. (wink, wink) Have a great day, and we will see you on Thursday!
Tomorrow will be a virtual attendance day so you will need to log on and complete your assignments.
Nowata Public Schools will be closed on Wednesday August 26 to repair a water leak at the Elementary School. We anticipate reopening on Thursday.

Football scrimmage starts at 6pm Remember no concession stand. Younger students are asked to sit with adults and not be playing pick up football Social distancing is requested when possible
Nowata Public School Patrons: This school year will pose challenges in regard to dealing with COVID 19. At the time I am writing this, four area schools have had to close for a limited time due to Covid. Nowata Public Schools has had two students who proved to not be exposed but had to quarantine for short times while figuring out their situation. In short, it is likely at some point that schools will shut down for periods of time in order to deep clean which will interrupt school as well as athletics. In an effort to honor our seniors as well as our military, veteran an active duty, we are going to have the Nowata Senior night and honor our military during the first game on 8-28-20 which happens to be against Oklahoma Union. Both teams will wear the military jerseys provided by the Oklahoma National Guard during the game. At halftime, we will ask all military to stand and be recognized. By having an abbreviated version of our military night, bands from both schools will have ample time to perform during halftime. At 6:30pm, the Nowata Seniors will be recognized. Our football players will wear their Nowata uniforms for senior night and the military jerseys for the actual game. We hope our efforts to continue the recognition of both our Seniors as well as our military in this every changing time is sufficient. We want everyone to know how much our Seniors an military mean to us. On a similar note, we are hosting our homecoming game September 11th when we host the Vinita Hornets. Thank you for your understanding Bron Williams Principal, Nowata High School
I will share more information soon. However we are moving Senior night and our military appreciation game to 8-28-20. We want to be sure we honor these groups and with COVID issues as possibilities we want to be proactive in our effort.

Pre-K and Kindergarten Parents, I know the importance of the first few days of school. I know you will never have this time again. We will begin Kindergarten at 8:20 a.m., the first three days of school: August 13th, 14th, and 17th. To help avoid the congestion of parents and students in the doorways, you will be able to walk your child up to the front doors where they will normally come in. Your child’s teacher will be there to greet you and your child. (An excellent place for photos and we will have a few “surprises” set up outside!) We require that adults wear a mask and only one adult per child. We will take the temperature of the student, and the student will walk into the building with their teacher. I remember the first few days of school when my children were young. Parents want to make sure students are with their teachers. (As with all things common sense will prevail. If your student is having anxiety, exceptions can be made. We will always do what is best for each child, while keeping the safety of all children foremost.) We will begin Pre-K at 8:40 a.m., the first three days of school. You may follow the same procedures as the Kindergarten students. If you would like your child to come to school at the regular time of 8:00 a.m., that is fine. We have arrangements for the students while the teachers greet the later arriving students outside. We have a closed building policy due to COVID-19. Thank you.
Nowata Elementary Meet the Teacher Nights Please join us for Meet the Teacher Night for your child! Your student will find out who their teacher is and bring their supplies to school on this night. Enrollment must be complete and turned in by August 6th to be assigned a teacher. In order to have this event, the following guidelines will be in place to ensure that students, parents, and staff can safely enter and move about the facilities while observing social distancing guidelines. Only two adults can accompany a child to his/her classroom. Please do not bring any siblings unless their grade/class is scheduled at the same time. Mask or cloth facial coverings for ALL ADULTS are required for entrance into the building. Because many adults will be in our building, it is strongly recommended that our students wear a mask for this event if age-appropriate. (At the time of writing this, Nowata has no active cases of COVID-19 or only two depending on the document you view. I would rather be overly cautious because our kids have not seen each other in quite a long time. I would also rather be careful about this event so that we do not have to begin school in masks and keep our numbers low. I hope that you will understand this choice. There have been hard decisions in thinking of the health of ALL kids.) Hand sanitizer will be available for all to use when entering the building, and your temperature will be taken as you enter the building. You must attend the scheduled time for your child's grade. The only teachers in the building will be the ones that are scheduled at that time. This will help us keep our numbers manageable and safe for everyone. Please do not attend this event if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: unexplained cough or shortness of breath/difficulty breathing fever higher than 100 degrees, loss of taste or smell chills or repeated shaking with chills close contact with a person with a lab-confirmed case of COVID-19 in the past 14 days August 10th, 5:00-6:00 Kindergarten (Please enter through the playground gates and door on the west side of the building.) 5th Grade (Please enter through the front door.) August 10th, 6:30-7:30 1st grade (Please enter through the playground gates and door on the west side of the building.) 2nd grade (Please enter through the front door.) August 11th, 5:00-6:00 PK (Please enter through the playground gates and door on the west side of the building.) 3rd grade (Please enter through the front door.) August 11th, 6:30-7:30 4th grade (Please enter through the front door.)
If your student is riding a bus during the upcoming 20-21 school year, please contact Mike Trout at 580-504-7276.
