At a special board meeting on Monday, June 12 th , the Nowata Board of Education
voted unanimously to hire their next district leader. Tim Simpson was chosen to
replace Chris Tanner as superintendent of schools beginning in July 2023.

wait to meet staff, families, and community members and begin this exciting
journey. I look forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure
that our Nowata students are successful and ready for their futures.”
As he begins his 31 st year as an educator, Simpson brings a wealth of experience
to the table. Originally from Northeast Ohio, he served three years in the US
Army, stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma. After being honorably discharged, he
attended Cameron University where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in English
Education. Simpson started his teaching career in Lawton Public Schools. After 15
years as a classroom teacher and earning his Masters Degree in Educational
Administration, he accepted a job as a middle school principal in Wellington,
Ohio, where he spent the next seven years. Desiring to be closer to his wife’s
family, Simpson accepted a principal’s position with the Oklahoma City Public
School District at Classen School of Advanced Studies. He remained there for two
years before accepting the job as superintendent for Wynnewood Public Schools,
where he has served the last six years. Simpson is coming to Nowata with his wife
Grace, who is currently employed by CVR Energy at the Wynnewood Refinery.
Their son Scott lives in a suburb of Chicago with his wife and three sons. Simpson
also has a daughter Jessica who lives in Northeast Ohio with her husband and new
baby girl.
